No number of listening experiences dim or dull my appreciation of Jessaye’s ( and we all feel that she is a”Jessaye “, don’t we?-a personal friend) beautiful performance of this great song.
The interviewer is quite good. He knows it’s a short interview so he asks specific questions that are still not too complicated for a casual watcher, and then he lets her do the talking.

I adore this song from the famous Ruckert Lieder, but for me, Mehta takes this piece too slowly. It loses it’s sense of being a song , ein lied. The flow is missing. I love Norman’s voice, but this is not the performance of this piece I want to take with me.

So effortless! And such a vocal range…..I have never heard or seen such a beautiful, nay stunning performer…Her face tells the story with her expressions throughout the aria…. My two biggest regrets are that (1) I was never fortunate enough to be at a live performance , and secondly that Jessye is very sadly no longer with us. Truly an exceptional singer. God has taken back his treasured Angel to sing with his heavenly choir. RIP Jessye, you will always be deeply missed by all who watch or hear you. 💐💕🙏
